I can help you with querying agents, editing, novel structure and making your novel or memoir the best it can be.
I’m the author of three critically acclaimed literary novels, Lost in the Beehive, a 2018 O Magazine Best of Spring Pick, Above Us Only Sky (Simon and Schuster), and The Handbook for Lightning Strike Survivors (Crown Random House), a Target Emerging Author pick. I am currently finishing my fourth novel, The Hummingbird.
When you’re in the midst of a book, it’s hard to see what’s working and what needs work. I know. I’ve been there. I can help you break on through to the other side and produce something of substance and value.
I have an MFA in fiction writing, a master’s in teaching English, and a BA in English literature. I teach writing, everything from character development to active prose and story structure, to writing the query letter that gets your project pulled from the slush pile.
As a published author, I’m also my toughest critic and editor. I can be your editor, the reader who stresses what’s shining, what’s special and unique about your voice. I’ll ask the questions that will help you decide what your book is really about, what parts are “little darlings” that need to be cut, and what will make your book undeniable to agents in the industry.
As an artist, I understand that our words and stories are precious. It’s not my job to tell you that something is “wrong”. It’s my job to help you better see and understand why one thing works and another doesn’t. Because you’re ultimately writing for an audience (and hopefully, a very large one), I’ll be that first audience, letting you know what’s working and why. I will be able to see holes or gaps in your story that you’re too close to see. I can point out what will keep a reader turning pages.
Writing a book is a brave and awesome task. I’ll be here to help you by providing notes on every page and a letter that addresses your work as a whole so that you can keep moving forward. I hope we get to work together.
Fees: Email me to discuss details. [email protected]
I will be happy to look at your first 1-2 pages and provide feedback for free–to make sure that we are a good fit. It’s important that you’re happy with the job I do.
